Its been a while but I’m back. I just finished up a 90 day challenge. I’ve always done a 30 challenge. In case you’re wondering what could inspire me to do a challenge that went on that long I was set on seeing if strict routine would help me and 30 days is long enough to see improvement but never long enough to really see how it impacted my life. That challenge changed my life but we can get back to that later.

The point of me telling you this is that I was in the last five days of my very long challenge when my mom was sharing with my cousin and I how bad sugar was for you and how she wished she could get away from it. Oh my brain got so excited, could I actually have a 30 day challenge with my family. With high hopes, I said well why don’t we do it 30 day no sugar challenge and everybody’s says yes we can do that much to my surprise. So we agree to start the next Monday. This is my journal of what happened when I gave up sugar for 30 days. Now for complete transparency we did not give up fruit. We’re not trying to make this hard on my 75 year-old mother because this is her first challenge ever and we want her to be successful.

Much to my Surprise this challenge was actually really hard on me and I’m like to consider myself a professional 30 day challenge Person. I’ll tell you all about it.

Day one

As always I’m excited and I’m ready to get started. I’ve made the food. I bought extra snacks. I usually have a soda at 3 o’clock so I brought baked apples with cinnamon to kill that sugar craving. As always on the first day of my experiment, I am excited and ready to kick the challenges, butt all over town and I feel like day I was a rockstar.

Day two

I’m still excited and ready to show everybody how great I’m doing. Unfortunately, for me day two was a stressful workday and on stressful days I tend to have one or two Gingerale’s to get me through and I usually make some kind of gluten-free specialty dessert for example last week I made a lemon posset. In fact, I’m thinking about that too much today and how I wish I could have just one delicious bite, that would make me so happy. Instead and I am cranky and sleepy. Sugar addiction is real.

Day three

Today I was just angry, why did I agreed to do this dumb thing. I was exhausted and worn out and just felt like laying in my bed, under the covers until the next day came. All I could think is this is so ridiculous because I was so prepared. I’ve done tons of challenges. I know what to expect but sugar it’s like a true addiction. I kept thinking how I could sneak it. Nobody would know because we all live in different states but I live by a very serious philosophy of when you cheat you only cheat yourself so I went home. I fell asleep at seven woke up at 11 went back to sleep at two woke up at four and just disliked everybody for the rest of the day.

Day four

OK, I felt a little more in control of my emotions today. Why the sugar cravings weren’t all the way gone they were way more manageable. What’s crazy is I’ve been gaining weight. I’ve gained 2 pounds. Not that I care especially but I was quite shocked that that happened. I gave up sugar, shouldn’t I lose weight? The truth is I was eating a lot more to curb that sugar craving, but it’s OK. You know how this goes once you level out you’ll go back down.

Day five

The cravings are getting better and better. I didn’t even think about my ginger ale today. I did think about it once I got home but at least I missed the 3 o’clock one without even realizing it the trick is fat and that probably sounds awful, but I definitely noticed if I have some avocado or some almond butter that I feel much better less cravings. I didn’t gain any weight today so that is progress.

Day six

It’s Saturday and weekends are always the hardest day for me because why I’m extremely disciplined during the week I give myself a break on the weekends.

The great news is, though I woke up this morning and I was down to my normal weight, I had a pretty easy day. I went to lunch with my son. I had some steak and sweet potatoes, which is always amazing from flower Child. Today is the Fourth of July. I don’t really notice anything major in my body.

Day seven

I feel pretty decent today. Nothing cool to report, I’m down another half a pound so now the sugar is finally moving the other way..thank goodness I think it’s just going to be kind of regular from here on out. We’ll see. I’ll keep you posted but week one was definitely hard to be honest guys. I really don’t need that much sugar so I did not expect it. But I think if you can make it through the first four days you’ll be OK.

Stay tuned and I’ll give you my update for week two where I hopefully see improvements in my skin and body.
